My Good News

I had to share my good news I received this week!

As part of my Visual Merchandising course I have to do a "mentorship" with a company of my choice. Basically it is just an internship, and we have to clock up 80 hours over the course of the semester. I applied for a few, trying to get in early to make sure I had a chance.

A few days ago I found out that I have been accepted as an intern with Sportsgirl's VM team! This is honestly the best news, and I really cannot believe I was lucky enough to get this opportunity. Working for Sportsgirl has been a dream of mine for so long, and their amazing displays have been a constant inspiration to me. A great thing about RMIT's course is they really have so many connections in the industry that really help you get your foot in the door.

If for some reason you aren't familiar with their amazing Visual Merchandising, have a little glance bellow.

I now cannot wait until next semester.

Obsession - Gretel Girl

I have been obsessed with embroidery hoop art for a while now. At the Finders Keepers Market I stumbled across this artist, Tracey, known as Gretel Girl. She is an amazing illustrator who uses fantastic fabrics to help create these one of a kind gems. I think I like her work so much because her illustration style is very sketchy, and that works so well with the embroidery. How could you not love her work!

I've recently taken up cross stitching, and I'm hoping to be able to design my own work once I'm a bit more experienced. Gretel Girl is a massive inspiration, even though the base of her work is illustrations, they still have the feel I am hoping to have with my own work.
Stay tuned for a post about my own crafty cross stitch endeavours!

In the mean time, check out her website Gretel Girl, you can also find her featured on The Finders Keepers Market website!

Four Eyes

Yep, I got glasses!
I think I'm ok with it. If you had of told me three years ago it would have been a different story. But there are so many great glasses around now! I had such a fun time shopping around for them. I ended up picking two pairs (thanks Specsavers for buy one get one free), these ones and a nice little black framed pair. I highly recommend Specsavers if you're in need of some new frames because they have a pretty good range and it's a lot cheaper!

I don't have to wear my glasses all the time, just for reading and being on the computer. Which is good in a lot of ways, but annoying that I constantly have to put them on and off. I'm still getting used to them! I guess it was only a matter of time before I needed to jumped on the four eyes bandwagon.

The Best Form Of Procrastination

I have a problem.
 Its reoccurring and delicious.
I find that whenever I try to avoid anything I turn on the oven, find a good recipe and start to bake. If you know me you clearly benefit from my problem, with the constant flow of scrumptious treats. This particular weekend I decided to spend my Saturday baking triple chocolate fudge brownies and red velvet cupcakes. I was quite happy with the result of both!

It was my first time attempting red velvet from scratch, and it wasn't hard at all. I don't really see why everyone views it as such a challenge. At the start I didn't know how I felt about cream cheese frosting. But when paired with the cupcake it was delicious!

I got the brownies recipe from here and the red velvet cupcake recipe from here.

It was nice to have some sweet treats ready for mother's day. I wonder what I'll bake next week!

Punch Buggy Red!

This is a shoot I did not too long ago as part of my photo styling class. It was the first time I'd worked as a stylist and had such a fun time doing it! I was paired with the lovely photographer Loz Dalton who was amazing. It was really great to be paired with someone who was so relaxed and really understood the feel I was going for.
Most of the clothes i sourced were vintage or from local op shops. Since it was self funded I didn't really want to go out and buy brand new clothes. I was also lucky enough to borrow some clothes from friends.
The super cool bug belonged to Loz's fellow photographer friend and she was lovely enough to let us borrow it for the shoot!

The model in these photos is my beautiful friend Siobhan O'Keefe. It was great that I happened to have a friend who was a model, whereas a lot of my peers had trouble finding someone.
The make-up was done by Katie Simmonds

I was extremely happy with the final results! There were so many that I loved, however I ended up picking the last photo as my final image because I felt it showcased the garments best, and in the end thats what you want as a stylist.

I love styling but I still feel my calling lies with retail VM. But it was fun to dabble in styling for a day!
